Tall Trees/ No Tomatoes

Question
My seedling are looking more like trees than tomato vines! I planted the seeds in the last weekend of March and I wound up with 4 solid tomato sproutlings. They have grown somewhat; one is 3 1/2 feet high, the other three are half that size. I grow them in my apartment in their own 18 inch pots. I used Miracle Grow potting soil for them and I use Miracle Grow Plant Food Sticks to feed them. However, they have done nothing but continue to grow taller with lots of branches. How long does it take for fruit or seedling bumps to occur? Will they just grow taller and sprout fruit? What am I doing wrong?

Answer
Hi Libby,
Thanx for your question.  Your tomatoes need to go outdoors.  They have a very high light requirement and warmth requirement.  Do you have a porch or terrace on which you can put the pots?  They will begin to grow and bloom and set fruit once exposed to warm air and sunny surroundings.  Just keep them evenly moist and well-drained and I would stop feeding them.  Too much nitrogen also causes growth with no flower or fruit set.  I hope this helps.
Tom
