LOTUS BAMBOO

Question
Please help, I can't find an answer anywhere:
I purchased a Lotus Bamboo plant for my friend last March.  It has three stalks, and is in water with rocks.  You can see the roots growing underneath.
We would like to know if we can cut about 4 inches off from the bottom up, and generate another stalk?  We were thinking of giving me the half that has the roots, and the other half she would put back in the water.  Would both grow again?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Denise,
Thanx for your question.  Lotus bamboo (it is neither lotus nor bamboo) also known as lucky bamboo (again, it is not bamboo) and hundreds of other names marketers have given this plant is in reality a simple dracaena.  You can cut at a joint on the stem and propagate your plant.  Just stick it in some gravel or marbles in a dish like you have now and it will easily reroot.  I hope this helps.
Tom
