house bamboo

Question
How do you propagate bamboo plants

Answer
Hi Yvonne,

I am going to assume that you are referring to the lucky bamboo that is very popular right now. They are usually sold growing in water and pebbles. If I am wrong and you are referring to true bamboo, let me know.

Lucky bamboo are not bamboo at all; they are Dracaena cuttings that are rooting in water. Like any other rooted cuttings, they can be potted in small pots filled with a good potting mix.

However, it is also possible to take cuttings from  these cuttings, if that is what you are inquiring about. Do this by cutting off the side shoots growing off on the main stems. Those side shoots can then be rooted in water themselves.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
