bamboo

Question
Hi
Can you tell me if a bamboo  Pogonatherum Monica keeps its leaves all year round please?
Thanks
Sandra

Answer
Hi Sandra,

Although this plant is commonly called Bamboo, it is not really a Bamboo. It is a member of the grass family.

It is a tropical plant and is unlikely to withstand temperatures below freezing, so if you keep it outdoor in temperate climates it will die back in winter. If you keep it indoors where it is warm, it will remain evergreen. However, it does require a lot of direct sun indoors and it tends to grow rather scraggly after a while. It is not a very popular indoor plant for that reason.

If you live in a warm climate, then you can keep it outside year round and it should do fine for you.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
