Answer
Hi Colton,
Thanx for your question.  This is a popular question and has been answered numerous times on this site.  If you will use our "Browse Answers" function above, you can sometimes (as in this case), get an immediate answer.

With that said, it is ok that the pit has dried out.  You can gently crack it open and remove the almond-like seed in the middle.  It should still grow.  Plant the seed about an inch deep in some moist potting soil and place the pot inside a plastic baggie.  Place in the fridge for 60-90 days as the seed requires a cold treatment to germinate.  After placing in the fridge, remove from fridge and from plastic bag and keep in a warm area under a 40-watt shop light.  The seedling should emerge in a couple weeks.  When you're ready to take it outdoors, wait until the last frost and then place the pot underneath a shady tree, protected from the elements for about 10 days.  After that, you can plant the seedling in full-sun.  You can also plant the seed in a pot and leave it outdoors as long as you water it regularly and as long as your area experiences consistent temperatures below 40 degrees for 3 months.  The seedling will emerge in the spring after the last frost.  I hope this helps.
Tom
