Nectarine seeds

Question
Nectarine seeds come in a shell, with the actual seed inside.  do I wait for the shell to dry and then open it to obtain the seed to plant, or do I plant the entire shell?

Answer
You will need to stratify the seed shell after it is completely dry. In other words, nick it slightly with lightweight sandpaper or with an Exacto-knife. This will help hasten the germination. You can then plant the entire shell, which simulates nature and how the nectarine tree propagates itself.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever provide assistance.

Regards,

Mike
