Spider plant propagation

Question
Hello,
I snipped some "babies" off my spider plant and popped them into a bowl of water to root in a well-lit area. It is something I've done before with perfect results, however, this time they are very slow to root and have taken on a pale, anemic-looking color. I put a drop of bleach in the water and have allowed them to dry out to curb bacteria and fungal growth. I'm just wondering  why they're having so much trouble.

Answer
It sounds like they experienced transplant shock, which can be caused by water temperature or the fact they were still too young to root. You've done the right thing by allowing them to dry out and by killing any bacteria with the bleach. In almost all cases, the seedlings will recover and root just fine. I would just be patient for a few days until they acclimate.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever provide assistance.

Regards,

Mike
