pygmy palm dying

Question
I've got a number of Pygmy palms here in St Pete...I've noticed that at least one tree in each group(typically 3) seems to be dying. The fronds are shriveling typically from the stalk outward...in many cases the fronds look brown and are breaking close in to the trunk.

I've had some die from this or something similar in the past.  Is there any cure or prevention?

Answer
Hi Pete, I get this a lot it seems, I'm south of you in Charlotte county, and I've seen this quite a bit, what usually has to happen is the afflicted stalk is excised off from the other two; I'm not sure what causes this but it is common. My theory is that underground is where the problem starts, and the dying stalk rots at that point, causing the crown to decay and eventually die. Nick
