Dying palm

Question
I have a palm, not sure what kind. I believe it has started to die. I have been trimming away all the dead brown parts. Is that good to do. What can I do to revive the plant we water it once a week and mist it as well. it is in a medium light place. Although winter has not left yet in British Columbia... any answers, should i wait untill summer for it to come back to life.. pls help

Answer
Hi Amanda, I'm assuming its in a container (being in Canada, LOL)..it is probably a Majesty Palm, they are the most common indoor palms; They need to be watered and then allowed to dry out before being watered again (or else you will rot the roots), they also need to be repotted about once every two years to keep the root ball viable. The brown fronds can be trimmed off, for they are no longer functioning, thats fine; watch the new emerging fronds from the crown, these are the crucial ones that will tell you how the palm is doing, if they unfurl brown, then you have problems, if not, then it should be ok....let me know...Nick
