transplanting pygmy plams

Question
distressed pygmy palm
distressed pygmy palm
I have recently transplanted a pygmy palm from the ground into a pot. My palm has been healthy before I took it from the ground but it is now dying. How do I keep it from dying?

Answer
Hi Fernando, just by the size of that palm, I know you did not get the entire root system, therefore it is stressed badly, because it is trying to survive with only a portion of the root system it had in the ground and the container is way too small for the existing root system to expand back to the size it was in the ground, if it survives at all. I would move it into a container at least twice the size of the one you have it in and then hope that it turns the corner and begins to regain some vitality with the depleated root system. Nick
