trimming pygmy date palm

Question
My pygmy date palms were brown all the way to the heart, due to the winter.I trimmed some of the trunks all the way to the heart.Did I do a bad thing?I figured if it was brown,it wasn't coming back. Will it eventually send new shoots?

Answer
Hi Allison, its up to mother nature at this point, you really should have left the damaged fronds alone, for they are still helping the palm even though they are not completely green; just keep the palm irrigated adequately and then you must play the waiting game. This Winter caused a lot of problems and there really isn't much we can do to repair it, as I say to the many questioners asking me, you can only wait and hope, but leave all the brownish growth alone until new growth commences.
