King Palms

Question
QUESTION: No, I put the whole thing straight in there out of the pot. I copacted the dirt as I was told to prevent air pockets. I think the name of the soil softener is called Gymsum.  It's used to break up clay and it feels like sand.

ANSWER: Rudy, It appears that the root ball is compacted, the roots need to be freed up so that they can expand out into the surrounding soil base; this could be the problem; everything else you say you did by the book, so, as long as they are getting irrigated every day, and will be for the next couple of weeks, there really isn't anything to pinpoint to cause this problem, except for this. I would lift them and then free up the ball, then place the ball back in the hole and backfill at the same exact level as it was in the pot. Nick

QUESTION: Do you think there is a possibilty they could die from lifting them out again?

Answer
Hi again, Considering the alternative, I wouldn't hesitate,,especially considering they haven't been in the ground long enough for the roots to take hold (and I am betting that the root ball hasn't broken out of its compaction...)..dig down carefully and begin to lift them, if they hold tight and don't free up easily, then the root ball has in fact begun to take hold and there will be no need to lift them, but I am guessing they will lift easily and you will be looking at the same pot bound call that you originally planted. Keep in mind Rudy, that I am here and you are there, so you must attempt to decipher what I mean and put it to action, albeit carefully. I attempt to help people with plant problems from behind a computer, and without seeing it (although some send attachments, which is nice!) it is difficult for me to always be on the money, and can only attempt to help with what knowledge I have or can research after hearing the problem.
