Ponytail palm freeze damage

Question
I have a ponytail palm that is about 2 ft tall, 5 years old, in a pot.  In traveling from NY to Tx, it was inside our RV for a couple of days in about 26 degree weather. The top has become grey and limp, so I'm guessing that it is cold damaged.  Should I cut the top off, or just leave it and see if new leaves come out?  If I cut it, should I cut it down to the harder trunk area?  It has 3-4 small "tops" as well as the main top.

Answer
Wait a couple of more weeks , if it is still alive, it will send out new shoots from the sides eventually and then you will have a clearer picture of where to cut it back, for the dead area will be prominent and the live section (with the pups) will be also. I can't emphasize enough the importance of patience, when it comes to cold damaged plants. Waiting is not going to hurt anything, but cutting too soon will assuredly damage viable tissue. Once you see new growth (if the roots are not compromised..) you will see what I mean.:)
