weeping Queen Palm

Question
I have a new home with 2 Queen Palms planted by the builder in the front yard 20' apart.  They were planted  November 2007.  One was replaced a few months ago because it started to curve inward.  Now the new one has curved inward also.  However, the trunk of the tall Queen is black and the fronds are turning brown.  Since I discovered this, I examined the tree and found black/brown liquid leaking from the tree.  This liquid is all over the flowers underplanted.  The substance is not sticky. Have you heard weeping palms?  Is it dead or is there still hope?  Will it harm the other palm?  Thanks.

Answer
I do not have much experience with palms.  Your description does not sound good however.  Check the leaves for insects such as aphids or scale.  They can cause the weeping liquid.  If you find no bugs I am afraid I can not suggest any cause for the problem.  You may have to consult with a local extension office for help.  Good Luck.
