gold capella

Question
Hello
I have planted a hedge of gold capellas and pinch back the tops occasionally so that they don't get leggy.  Lately, I have noticed that where I have trimmed, it looks like a cluster of buds have formed.  Is this a flower?  Is it OK to trim off??
I have never seen anything like this on my arbicolas or trinettes, from the same family.
Thank you.
Debbie

Answer
Hi Debbie, albeit they will send out occasional blooms, it usually isn't until early Winter, what I think you are seeing is where the new growth (branches) are forming from the cut and they are small so they may look like a bloom. Aboricolas should be pruned to size, so what you are doing is fine like many other hedges. Nick
