Redbud wont bloom

Question
I have a young redbud (actually it's probably about 3 years old now) that came up by itself right next to my deck. It situated itself in between a boulder and the deck itself.  It has grown quite well and is probably about five foot tall by now.

My question is, is there a reason why it has never developed flowering buds in the spring?  I planned on digging it out a long time ago but thought it was a redbud and kept waiting for it to bloom and then I was going to transplant it.  Well everyone tells me that it is a redbud but it just has never developed flowers.  It is very healthy and the leaves on it are quite substantial. It is going to be quite a chore to dig it out from its location and I would just saw it down but would really love to transplant it if it would bloom in the spring.  Why would it not be developing flowering buds?

Thanks for any help you could offer.

Answer
Victoria,

I believe it is just too young.  Flowering takes a lot of energy and many tree species will not flower until they have enough stored carbohydrates.  I think you just need some patience with this tree.  If you want a redbud ready to bllom you will need to go to the garden center and buy one.

Good gardening
