roses wont bloom

Question
I planted my roses last spring.  They grew and bloomed all last summer.  I mulched them for the winter and uncovered them this spring.  The plants look healthy.  No black spot or anything.  It has not grown any this summer and has only bloomed one flower.  What can I do?

Answer
I would first check to make sure the rose is still alive. Scratch a the side of a cane and see if it is green . If it is brown then the rose has died over the winter. Many areas have had very nasty type winters last year. if it is green, then try using a tomato fertilizing as that is high in phosphorus which is what a rose needs lots of to make flowers. Just follow the directions for a mature tomato plant.
