Crypt Myrtle

Question
I have a 9' Crypt Myrtle tree planted above the water line going to my house, the water line is about 5'down and I was wondering if their is a chance that the roots of the tree will eventually break the water line. Should I move the tree or will it be safe to keep it where it is?

Answer
You will have no problem with the roots of crept myrtle and water pipes. Water pipes are sealed and under pressure. Tree roots will seek water but since the pipes are sealed there will be no water on the outside. The pipe problems with trees are with septic tank lines especially the older clay pipes that will leak. Also the roots are within the first three feet of the soil surface and pipes down 5 feet will not be touched. Enjoy the crept.
