water pipes

Question

QUESTION: I have attached a photo of the hill behind our house. As you can see, the water from the pipe jutting out has created a gouge going down the hill, and I want to extend the pipe all the way down the hill so the water empties out at the bottom of the hill. I want to do it in sections, starting with an elbow, and the rest of it would lie flat in the gouged area.

Two questions regarding laying down the pipes. I am an amateur. Do I need to use blue glue and white threading to put the pipe sections together, or will the blue glue be enough?
Should I lay down the piping and cover it with sand bags, or put
dirt or sand bags on the ground first and then lay the pipe sections on top? Other than for the appearance, is it necessary to cover the pipe sections with dirt or sandbags? Would sand be interchangeable with dirt (again, this is aside from appearance.)?

ANSWER: Hey David, I can't really see the pipe you are talking about in the picture. Is it just a drainage pipe that flows when you get rain or what? I'm thinking if it is just a drainage pipe, you could probably just use some black flexible ADS drainage pipe, and put it in a ditch and bury it. What size pipe is the water coming out of? Why does the water come out of the pipe? DAvid if you could give me some more info. it would really help. Let me know and have a good one.

QUESTION: It's the pipe pointed vertically near the center of the photo, just to the left of center. (Not the thinner pipe running horizontally. ) It's for draining the water from our patio. The water has created the gouge in the earth. I need to extend the pipe down to the bottom of the hill. I am asking how to put the pipe together and whether to put dirt/sand under or over it or both. Thanks!

Answer
Hey David, this pipe will not have any pressure on it, so you can just glue the pvc together. I would suggest digging a trench and laying the pipe in the trench, and the spot you make your connection to the old pipe, you can probably use a couple of 45 degree fittings to make it work.  You don't need anything on the pipe, but it would look better if it was buried, or at least covered up with dirt. I hope this helps, good luck and have a great day.
