Water lodged trees

Question
Hi, we have a type of gum tree which we planted about 5yrs ago. 1 tree has developed really well but the other 3 have been quite slow in growing. This yr we have had a extremely wet winter and the 3 smaller trees have turned up their leaves and look like they are going to die. We have been told that they are water lodged as alot of water has been sitting in the ground. Can you tell me if there is anything we can do to save these trees?
Thanks

Answer
Too much water is as bad for the tree roots as too little. If you can not change the water sitting on the area there is not much that can be done. Gum trees do like water but saturated soil has no air spaces and the roots can not live long under the water. You will need to try and change the drainage so the water does not stay on the tree roots.
