remove mulitple trees

Question
I have about 30 acres of land in Oklahoma City.  The Juniper trees are taking over and choking out the oaks and maples trees and making a mess.  What is the best way to remove mulitple juniper trees.  Some are saplings, but some are up to 8 inches in diamter.  I have heard to use a chainsaw, but this leaves stumps.  I have also heard to use a bulldozer, but this can be expensive, and I don't want to damage the maples and oaks by driving over the roots with heavy machines.  Any ideas?

Answer
If you are talking about removing them you will have to cut them. But if you want them dead you can spray them with a herbicide but the stem will remain until until it falls and decays.
It could be done with the use of prescribed fire but the thin barked maples may also be killed.
There are newer machines that are less of an impact on the soil that can be use to cut the trees and move them to a site that can be burned as a pile.
There are too many unknown variables for me to recommend which method you should used -Number and size of the juniper trees, number and size of the other tree species, lay of the land, etc. I would recommend that you contact the Okla. State Forestry agency and ask one of their Foresters to come out and advise you what needs to be done on this land.

Their contact web page is http://www.forestry.ok.gov/county-contacts

Here  is some information on Timber Stand Improvement that they can advise on. http://www.forestry.ok.gov/tsi

Also here is some information of control of juniper from Texas.
