15 ft. blue spruce.

Question
I have a 15 ft blue spruce in my backyard. It is next to a wooden fence, and it is hard to believe much wind could damage it from the base, It has been there for 14 yerars and thriving...until this year. We had alot of rain/snow/moisture, and that area of the yard gets submerged about 2-3 inches for periods of time. Bottom line, it is now leaning pretty hard...about 40 degrees. The tree guy I had out says there is not much he can do, as even if he tried to stake it...trunk is heavy so I don't know how he could...the fence is all he could attach it to, and it wouldn't hold it. he says all that I can do is have him cut it down and put it in a chipper. Should I get another opinion from another tree service, or should I simply take him at his word? I hate to lose the thing, since I planted it when we first moved into the home.

Answer
It is difficult to envision the lean and the site without seeing the tree. I would have a certified Arborist look at the tree. "tree service people" have their place but sometimes they do not have the best interest of the tree in mind. Here is the link to certified arborist in your area. If you can not get one of them call the local office of the State Forestry agency and ask one of their Foresters to take a look.
