i heard a myth that when planting a regular spruce tree that if you put common ungalvanized nail in the ground with the roots it will turn the tree into a blue spruce is there any truth to this at all thanks a lot for any help on this.

No these are different genera of the same species --Picea

There are 6 common spruces in the US-Spruce, Black Hills,(Picea glauca var. densata)
; Spruce, Colorado Blue (Picea pungens); Spruce, Norway (Picea abies); Spruce, Oriental
(Picea orientalis); Spruce, Serbian (Picea omorika); and Spruce, White (Picea glauca)

A Colorado Blue Spruce has the blue tinted needles. You can not take a Norway spruce and change the color any more than you can take a poodle dog and change it into a boxer dog. If you want a blue spruce you will have to plant one.
