otto luyken laurel

Question
I just planted four in May and now my second one is turning brown and the leaves are falling off.  It is dying buty I don;t know what I did wrong.

Answer
Hello Michele

I don't know what you did wrong either.  Usually laurel is a very tolerant and problem free plant.  The only thing that occurs to me is the possibility of these plants being on a very wet site.  They do like a moist soil, but not saturated.

Come back to me on this one Michele - has the weather been very hot or unseasonably wet, are the plants in full sun or partial shade. Can you see any evidence of insect infestation?  If so what do they look like?  Is there any damage or disease to seen on the stems?  If so, describe it as fully as you can.

This information might help me to come up with an answer.

However, you sometimes find that new plants will just decide to die for no discernable reason!

Oh - the joys of gardening!!
