What to plant on the north side of house

Question
Hello,
I live in Tulsa, OK and have a very long (probably 25-30 feet) bed on the north side of my house.  Nothing, other than eleagnus has done well there.  I want to take out the eleagnus because I just don't like the looks of it.  What would you suggest?  I like color but know I need some shrubs.  This get very little, if any, direct sun.  What little sun it gets is late, late afternoon.
Thank you for any ideas!

Answer
Judy,

I would recommend any of the following plants-

Hammamelis- Witchazel
Hedera helix- English Ivy
Kalmia- Mountain Laurel
Leucothoe catesbaei- Fetterbush
Mahonia
Rhododendron maximum
Symphoricarpos- Snowberry
Viburnum

All of these plants will do well in dense shade

Good luck,
Ed Gulliksen
