my rose wont flower

Question
QUESTION: i bought a rose plant from local store the first year that i transplanted it flowered but now it just grows and will not flower i have cut it down a few times hoping it would flower but it keeps growing what do i do????

ANSWER: Many roses need to grow to a certain height before they will flower. Also many make just growth the first year at the expense of flowering which takes a lot of energy. I wouldn't be too concerned if your roses didn't bloom this year, especially if you had any very hot weather. Next year don't cut it back just let it do it's thing and you will find that it will flower for you. What has happened is that the rose was stunted because of being in the store and has now started to make growth the way it should do so please don't worry about it as it sounds like it is acting very normal. Hope this helps.

QUESTION: i have had this rose for over 3 years and if i ;et it grow it  height goes up to 9 to 10 foot tall??? i got another rose at the same time as this one and it blooms all the time and i bought both at same store

Answer
Are you sure it is just a hybrid tea rose or is it a climber?
Also some bush roes will have climbers in their blood lines and for no reason at all they will sport to a climber. It does sound like your rose was mislabeled (not a rare thing to happen) and it is not a bush rose but a climber. So every year it will grow tall regardless of what you do. Trying to cut it down will just encourage it to replace the canes you cut off. Perhaps it could be replanted as a climber in your garden. I don't know where you garden but if it is in a warm climate then you will often have this problem with a rose.
