no blooms

Question
Hi,
I planted 2 rose bushes that i brought back from our land in Michigan and out there they grow every where very small roses but beautiful anyway i brought 2 back to chicago and this is the 2nd year not one rose I did however cut it down to the ground last year because it was growing everywhere and into other plants but no roses so this year its growing beautiful big and the leaves are a deep green but not a single rose can you please suggest something for me to do before my husband says to dig it out.
Thank you so much

Answer
When you cut a rose right down hard, what you are doing is starting the whole rose bush again. That means it has to start again from scratch. Your rose is now putting out new growth at the expense of flowers. This is not unusual. Don't give up as it may take this year for it to re-grow to the height in which it wants to bloom. It will definitely bloom for you next year for certain. Hope this helps.
