tea roses

Question
I bought two  different kind of small roses and put them in the garden where they have done very well.
Now I have taken them in the house, and see that they have spidermite, spiderweb . What can I do, to kill it and keep my plants. The have formed lots of new growth and buts. Thank you Ann

Answer
Roses never do well in the dry, hot atmosphere of a house and will always get spider mites. Even if you do get rid of the mites, because they are on household items, they will return to the rose and start all over again. Because mites hate water and prefer dryness, washing the plant off under the tap will help to get rid of the insects. However, they will probably return and you will have to get a spray that will kill them when they suck on the leaves. Any systemic type of rose spray will do the jib but still keep an eye open for their return. If you have any other plants in the house they will definitely be on those too.
