Small Rose Blooms

Question
I have a beautiful rose bush that for the past 3 years has not been producing large blooms. They are getting smaller and smaller every year! The bush is 10 years old. Could you tell me why?

Thanks so much

Answer
It is hard to know what is causing the problem without seeing the rose bush. However when a rose gets smaller and smaller blooms, there is usually something the matter with the roots. It could be that there is a canker at the base of the bush or even on the roots. Check for a lump of some kind near the base and if there is one then that will be the problem.
