bush rose in container

Question
We have 2 container roses.1 bought last year 1 this year.Last years rose started out beautiful and all of a sudden just stopped putting out new leaves and buds and leaves seem to be getting paler in color. soil is moist.one little stem of leaves has appeared but looks completely different from the others, like it doesn't belong. This year it started blooming profusely and just stopped. Thanks and i would appreciate your help

Answer
When a rose in a container acts as you have described, then it is the roots that are no happy. Rose roots will not tolerate being in a wet type of soil for very long. The container should be 18 inches deep or the roots won't have enough room. I am assuming here that the rose is in a container. Also when a rose is in a container and it has a lot of water in it which can't drain off, the rose can be dead but will put out new growth which will suddenly die because it was living off the water in the container. If you think this is not the reason or the rose is not in a pot, will you please get back to me with more information. Thanks
