spindly roses

Question
This year most of my rose plants (mostly florabunda) are very tall leggy stems with buds but not much "bunching out" growth.  what do i do?

Answer
Most roses tend to grow up but not out. To make then bushier, you have to prune them back by about 50% in the early spring. You can of course do it now but you will not have many flowers because they have to grow back the flower buds you cut off. If possible it  would be best next spring to prune them back very hard. Also don't be too generous with the fertilizers as they will also tend to make the roses grow too tall.
