growing a rose

Question
hi,this might sound a silly question, but my husband sent me 14 red roses for valentines day and although the roses on top are now falling there are nice green shoots growing out the side of the stem, so my question is is there any way i can plant these shoots and grow more roses from them and if so how would i go about doing this please.many thanks for your help in advance.

Answer
What you are seeing are new canes where the bud eyes are. You can try and grow the stems but they will not make a good garden rose as thy were bred in a greenhouse for the florist trade. This means they grow well in a greenhouse not outside as most are frail roses. Don't be too disappointed if they don't take. They probably will have bacteria in the stems from being in water for so long.
However if you want to try and grow them here is a web site that will guide you through the process.
