pansies

Question
I planted pansies last spring and transplanted them to the yard in the summer.  They didn't do very well, but I did see a few blossoms.  Now I've dug them up and put them indoors in pots.  I'm living in Russia, and they'd freeze outside!  I'd love to have them bloom during the winter, but it looks like they're "resting" or something.  They should do better next summer, right?  But what about this winter?  Should I store them in a cool, dark place or what?

Thanks!

Jana

Answer
Jana,
Russia is WAY out of my expertise! I live in the US,Western KY. Pansies love cool weather(between 30 and 40 degrees),but I am not sure what your temp is there now. They will not do well indoors unless you have a cool bright room.Otherwise, just buy new ones next spring if they are not liking your temps now, especially if it is below freezing. You have your work cut out for you in that climate I am sure. You may want to look for another one of our experts that knows your climate,if we have one at all.
Good luck with all your gardening endeavors!
