moving perenials in zone 4

Question
I have moved a few blocks away from a house that I am selling and would like to
move a few perennials. I this too late in the fall to move them?

Answer
Hi Melissa,
Thanx for your question.  It is a bit late to be moving plants in zone 4 however, if you heavily mulch, you should be able to safely do it.  The key is to get the plants move and into the ground 30 days before the ground freezes.  3-5 inches of mulch over the rootball will help extend the time it takes for the roots to become accustomed to their new surroundings.  I hope this helps.
Tom
