Half of boxwoods dying

Question
QUESTION: Hello,

I live in central NJ, and have had two rows of boxwoods planted along either side of the steps by my front porch for the last five years.  All was doing fine for the first four years, but last summer, about half of two different boxwoods adjacent to each other died off (the two halves were facing each other).  The other halves of both of these boxwoods still look healthy and show new growth this spring.  I have a photo, if it helps.  Unfortunately, another boxwood a couple of bushes down the row is starting to show some dying branches.  All of the boxwoods on the other side of the steps remain quite healthy.

I certainly would like to save these boxwoods, so I was checking to see if you might know what would cause this type of scenario.

Thanks!

ANSWER: Hi Mike,
Thanx for your question.  Before I attempt to answer it, do you have English Boxwood or American Boxwood?  This will help in determining what is wrong.
thx,
Tom

QUESTION: I am pretty sure I have English Boxwoods.... Thanks for getting back to me!

Answer
Hi Mike,
Thanx for the additional information.  It sounds to me like your plants have English boxwood decline.  Here is a link to the Virginia Cooperative Extension service and there are pictures you can look at.  There is no treatment for this disease of which I am aware.  You'll probably end up having to replace the English boxwoods with American boxwoods or cultivars mention in the information.  I hope this helps and if it does not, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
