Dying Snapdragon Buds

Question
QUESTION: I am having a problem with my snapdragon buds turning brown and dying.
They look like they are being hollowed out or just drying up.  It's been a pretty
wet spring here in Dallas, but for the plants are really healthy.

ANSWER: Hi Kim,
Thanx for your question.  Take a look at this URL and let me know if this is what your plant's problem looks like and then we'll go from there.
thx,
Tom

QUESTION: Nope.  It looks more like the flower bud has been hollowed out.  I cut back the
affected stems and when I did so, little black granules came out of the dead
buds. ??

Answer
Hi Kim,
Thanx for the follow up.  The black granules you describe sound like "frass" which is "bug poop".  To me, that means bud worm.  There is no effective remedy (that I know of) for budworm.  YOu may have to pull up the plants and plant elsewhere.  I don't recommend planting petunias, geranioums or snapdragons in this place again next year.  I hope this helps.
Tom
