Dying Tomatoe Plants

Question
My tomatoe plants did very well early. They got to be very big with lots of tomatoes. About a month ago,the leaves started to turn brown on the bottom of the plants. Now the leaves on top are brown & dying. We have had a wet summer. What is the cause.
                         Thank you

Answer
Hi Bud, now you have asked THE question for all tomato gardeners. I am experiencing the very same problem and I'm afraid it's new soil time! the two viral and wilt diseases of Fusarium and Verticillium have struck! If you have a new location where tomatoes have not been grown for at least five years( including peppers, eggplant, potatoes and strawberries) then you may be spared this wilt happening again. If not, plant in large containers with soil from a good sterilized source. GOOD LUCK!
