snowball tree recently planted

Question
I just planted this snowball tree, gave it a good amount of space and some rich compost and consistant watering.  However, the dirt around the root ball had been dug away, I think from a rabbit, and a few of the roots had been exposed and maybe nibbled on...can I save.  We got a downpour of rain yesterday so the leaves still look good and green but all of the snowballs are off!!! Can I save it?  How?  Help!!!   Thank you, Diane

Answer
Hi Diane,
Thanx for your question.  I think your snowball bush is fine.  Replace the dirt and pack it in.  You might want to put some cypress mulch or pine needles something like that for mulch around it to discourage animals from digging at the roots.  I hope this helps.
Tom
