Wintering of POTTED perennials

Question
I have several hibiscus, roses, clematis in pots as we were anticipating a move. Now it is almost winter and I desperately need to know what to do to winterize all these potted plants

Answer
Hi Judith,
Thanx for your question.  You didn't mention what zone you are in so I'm going to wing it here.  If you have killing frosts which I'm going to assume you do, keep potted plants protected from cold northwinds, in fact an unheated, cold garage or shed would do nicely because the plants will be dormant.  Once you've had your last frost, bring the pots out into the open.  If you do not have a cold shed or garage, place the pots next to the house out of the north wind and this should protect them enough.  I hope this helps.
Tom
