planting in pots

Question
I am very new to flowers and plants.
I was wondering if perennials can be planted in
pots or if they have to be in the ground?

                         Thank you

Answer
Most perennials prefer to be in the ground because of their larger root systems and they are considered to be hopefully, permanent peices of your landscape. However there are huge pots that are deep enough to sustain a perennial or more than one. They can also be used to plant small evergreen trees or shrubs. So it really depends on what perennial you choose and making sure the pot is deep enough to sustain the root system of a plant or plants.
The pots that are made of the resin material are really lightweight and easier to move around and you can usually keep them out all winter without fear of cracking the pot and still protecting the roots of the plants in them. I have several large resin material pots and I leave them out all winter and most of my perennials come back fine.
