Pink Jasmine with dry curling leaves

Question
Hi Tom! Thanks for answering my question. I have a pink jasmine plant that I bought a year and a half ago. The plant was doing well through the summer with healthy shoots and green leaves. As it set bud in about January, the leaves started curling and drying up. It is now spreading so much that there are more dry leaves than green ones. The buds don't seem to look too good, either. I live in San Jose, CA and it has been raining almost constantly for the last two months (and the plant is on a balcony). I have made it a point to check the soil before watering, clearing the stagnant water from the tray, etc. I have also used a fungicide recommended by a nursery here in the Bay Area, but with no avail. Please help me, as this is my favorite plant and I would hate to lose it. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Chandana,
Thanx for your question.  It sounds like your jasmine has Leaf-blight (Cercospora jasminicola and Alternaria jasmini).  Treating it with a fungicide is good.  This disease usually appears during a rainy season.  Don't let the plant stand in water.  Allow it to drain and dry out completely. Give it as much sun as possible.  Keep treating with the fungicide.  Sometimes the infestation can be so severe that there is nothing you can do.  You may want to go ahead and cut off the brown areas to reduce infection.  I hope this helps.
Tom
