jasmine sambac disease

Question
i have a jasmine sambac about 3 years old that is loosing its leaves, it appears to have lost about 30-40 percent in the last 3 months. i had it out all last summer in a 6 X 6 pot an it did great out there.
the plant(s) is now about 18 inches tall and 24 inches wide.
the leaves dry up and fall off, i dont think i have mites or any type of visible insect infestation or that i am over watering ( well water about a cup or so a week )however i do believe i have some type of fungus or such.
is ther any thing that i can do to make this plant healthy again?
thanks,
joel

Answer
Joel,

You didn't say how much sun it is getting.  This plant is a sun lover and I suspect that is part of your problem. If possible move it to a sunnier location and it should improve. It needs all day in front of a south facing window with drapes or mini blinds open all day.  However, just to be on the safe side, in case it also has a bacteria or fungal problem you should start spraying it with plain old Lysol spray (generic is fine)daily for 2 weeks making sure you get the front and backs of all leaves and the surface of the soil. After 2 weeks spray it every other day for 2 more weeks, then weekly till spring. Also, be careful not to leave it go totally dry. Being too dry for even a breif time could cause leaf drop. However it can't be too wet either because that can cause root rot.

For now try to move it to a sunnier location and try the Lysol.  Good luuck.
