Daisy Mums

Question
I have been doing some volunteer gardening in my community since last spring. Now it is November and the Daisy mums have just bloomed because I pinched them too late. after this last bloom what would happen if I trim the long stalks back to 2 inches for the winter.. will they take too long to flower next year? I live in Washington State.  Would love a response.. thanks so much

Answer
Hi Lora,
Thanx for your question.  I always recommend pruning perennials down to the ground at the onset of winter and for the daisy mums, this will not adversely affect next year's growth.  If anything, clearing the plant of this growth and keeping its area clean will make a stronger, more robust plant next year.  I hope this helps.
Tom
