weird root like things

Question
My orchid plant is about two years old. It had blooms when I bought it, but when they died, it has never bloomed again . The leaves are thick and green and appear healthy. It has one stalk that is about 5 inches long that was cut off on top. Recently it has begun to sprout what looks like several thick roots that grow out and up about 4 or 6 inches tall. I cant imagine what they are. Any help?

Answer
Hello Belinda,

Without knowing what kind of orchid you have, it is very difficult to tell you what to do to make it bloom again.  If you could describe what the orchid plant looks like, I might be able to guess what it might be.

Roots are usually thicker than flower stems.  Are the sort of greyish with a small green tip?  If they are, they probably are roots.  The green tip would indicate the root is growing, no green tip would mean it has temporarily stopped growing.

If you could get back to me with a little information, I'll try to help.
