what are these strange little bulbous white things

Question

unknown
This plant came up in my strawberry bed. the white bulbous things on top of it don't look like flower buds, just rounded things. yet they are not berries. The leaves are opposite, toothed and a couple inches long.

Answer
I'd have to say that those bulbous white things are the inflorescence of your plant. In otherwords, the flowers.

It looks like an Everlasting of some kind, Gnaphalium or Pseudognaphalium, or maybe Anaphalis though it's not an exact match to any in my area. P. macounii is close, as is G. obtusifolium.

Everlastings, also called Catfoot, don't open any more than that, until they are in seed, then they open a bit to let the little fluffy seeds fly away.
