indoor plants have worms!

Question
I have two plants that I have had for many years.  One is a jade plant and the other I'm not sure what it is.  I water my plants regularly by soaking the plants in my sink.  I have just seen for the first time black and red worms crawling out of the pots.  These worms are very thin and do not look like your outside variety.  What can I do to get rid of the worm?  Are they bad for my plants?

Answer
Brandon,

I have no idea where your worms came from. I have never heard of red and black thin worms attacking houseplants. You can kill them by watering the plants from the top with a bottle of rubbing alcohol straight out of the bottle. That will kill any  crature on contact and will not damage the roots of the plant. I doubt that the worms are harming the plant roots. In fact garden worms in plants are good for them, they aerate the soil and fertilize it with their excrement.

From what you said I do think you may be keeping your jade too wet. They are from the plains of Africa and like to be kept on the dry side. It should get very dry between waterings. It also should be kept in the sunniest window you have. Good luck.
