Sansevieria (Snake Plant)

Question
Hi Darlene,
You answered my last question so well, I couldn't resist another one!  I have a row of variagated snake plants outside my front door and they look wonderful.  On an almost daily basis new ones are popping up.  I've cut off a few and potted them and the roots are huge.  My question is - as I've told you, it's winter here in Sydney Australia and even though they are still growing well, would I be better waiting until spring to dig more up?  Or do you think they are so strong and hardy, it doesn't matter?

Thanks again

Answer
Barbara,

Cuttings of variegated sansevieria generally revert to plain green ones. To keep the variegation you have to divide a plant, or dig up a section of plant. When you dig up large ones they tend to de floppy in the pot and have to be staked for awhile. If it is warm enough for them to survive outdoors that time of year then it is probably safe to dig them. Just try to givee them the same quality of light that they are used to getting outdoors. They are generally tough plants and can survive anything except overwatering. Do not let them sit in wet soil constantly. Water them well then let them go until they are bone dry before watering again. Good luck.

Darlene
