droopy plant

Question
I have two plants which are very hardy year-round, and I think the casual name for them is "Spanish bayonettes".  They took root after I just tossed them outside my back door and have survived six years. I have noticed their "crown" area is very droopy and looking very worn right now.  We have had a good bit of snow this winter, but I can't remember seeing them ever look so bad.  Do you think they will perk up, or what can I do for them?  They have grown to be so striking that I was planning to put them in a planter or move them to the front this spring.
Thanks in advance

Answer
Hello Patricia

'Spanish Bayonettes' is the common name for the Yucca.  It does sound as though your plants have suffered some with the heavy snow this year.

As you say that you've had the Yuccas for several years now, I think it may be worth waiting a few weeks - say to the middle of June - to see if they start to push out new growth from the crown.  If they haven't shown any signs of regrowth in that time, I'm afraid that they may have to be discarded.  Just keep an eye on them - and hope.
