plant care

Question
Can I keep bouganvilleas to smallish bush size by kkeping them pruned? How much watering will they require? I am in west Florida.

Answer
Hi Kathleen, there are standard Bougs and dwarf Bougs, the standards can be kept groomed, but not smaller then they are meant to be, without losing all your leaves and bracts; standards can be pruned to about 5 feet high without losing too much of their beauty, if you want smaller Bougs you should get the dwarf variety, which only grows to about 2 feet. Now, about watering, very, very, little water for them, they color best when water stressed, so water them about once a month and once they are established, mother nature will supply what they need...regards and happy holiday!
