trimming down Dracenea

Question
Hello, My Dracenea has grown to the ceiling and I am wanting to know if I can cut it down a bit and will it sprout new shouts below the cut off point

Answer
Kenneth,

Yes, you can cut it down an and it will sproout out new shoots at exactly the point you cut it off at and no lower so if you want the new branches to come out at 4 foot do not cut it off at 6 foot and expect it to send out new shoots at 4 foot. Cut it off at 4 foot. You can dip the top that you cut off in rooting hormone and insert it in the soil beside the parent plant or in a separate pot and you have a chance that it will root and grow a new separate plant. Your chances would be better if you waited until after April 1st but you have a 40% chance that it will root now. You would have a 70% chance in April. If you have more queestions write again. Good luck.
